As in an apartment or shared flat, it is also an advantage to have your own household insurance in a student residence. Damage caused by students is not covered by the residence operator’s insurance. In order to avoid having to bear the costs of such damage yourself, student insurance is a sensible form of cover. Anyone who is not insured should check whether they are co-insured with their parents. Austrian household insurance often also covers children at the place of study. After all, something can always happen by chance or carelessness.
Please note: roommates are not automatically insured. In a double room or a larger living unit, each resident needs their own insurance.
